The Story: Over the last year I have had hundreds of calls from India offering me great deals on a mortgage. At first I screamed and yelled and cursed these calls. When they continued, I decided to find out where they led if I played along with them. I began keeping a video camera by my phone and every time I received a call from India I put the phone on speaker phone and started the camera. Thus I got audio of the call. I told them I was recording them but that did not seem to phase them one bit.
Over the last 9 months I have played along with the calls and I have been connected with hundreds of mortgage brokers in California. I get their web site by telling them I don't do business with someone I don't know and while they wait, I look up their web site and from there go to the Secretary of State Web site to confirm whether or not they are registered with the State of California. Normally they are very cooperative in helping me get their information since at that point they think I may get a mortgage from the. Once I have their name, the actual company name, the agent for service, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses, I inform them we have a little problem. I am on the do not call list and their call is illegal. Some get very irate at this point others very apologetic.
I am now proceeding with suing as many of these companies I can. Obviously I cannot sue the people in India so I sue the California based company that hired the company in India for leads.
Some say I cannot sue them since someone in India made the initial call. I tell them that is no defense since they hired the Indian company to generate the leads.
We will see how things go in court. I had hoped that after a year of these calls, they would be dwindling by now. But in the last three days, I have received 14 more calls from India and spoken with 10 California mortgage companies. In one case I talked with the same salesperson for the 3rd time in 3 months. He remembered our 2 previous conversations and cussed me out for WASTING HIS TIME!!! HELP!!!
